Board Facts

Board of Education Facts

A local Board of Education serves as an agency of New York State, operating under state law and the regulations of the Commissioner of Education. The Warrensburg CSD Board consists of nine members who each serve five-year terms. The Warrensburg Central School District Board of Education is responsible for establishing policies, managing the district’s budget, and directly hiring the superintendent of schools. As elected representatives, the Board embodies the community’s right to oversee public education.

  • The Warrensburg Central School District Board of Education is composed of seven members, each elected by the Warrensburg Central School District community to serve a four-year term.

  • This group of seven individuals works together as one entity to manage the business of the district.

  • No individual Board member may speak for the Board outside of a Board meeting unless granted that authority by the Board. This authority is typically granted to the Board President. Outside of Board meetings, individual Board members may speak as private citizens and are not barred from doing so by any Board policy.

  • Board members elect a President and Vice President each July to serve for the upcoming school year. The Vice President assumes the President's duties during their absence.

  • The Board typically meets twice a month. Regular Board of Education meetings, which focus on conducting district business, are typically held on the second Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Jr/Sr High School Library. Board of Education workshops are usually held on the fourth Monday of each month at 6:00 pm in the Jr/Sr High School Library. (Please click here for the complete list of dates for the current school year.)

  • Board of Education meetings are open to the public in accordance with the Open Meetings Law. However, they are meetings of the Board to conduct district business, not public meetings or meetings of the public.

  • Meeting agendas are posted on the district website no later than the day of the meeting.

  • The Board Agenda typically includes two public comment opportunities for members of the public to speak at each meeting, one at the beginning and one at the end.  These public comment sessions are not intended as dialogues between the Board and the public but rather as opportunities for public input.

  • The Board is responsible for establishing policies for the district and reviews them regularly to ensure they remain relevant and address current issues.
