Transportation

The Warrensburg Central School District Transportation Department's mission is the safe transportation of students to and from school every day.

Our drivers have an outstanding safety record and are annually recognized by Utica National for their safe driving. Additionally, New York State tracks the driving records of each of our drivers. all of our transportation employees receive yearly training and refreshers.

Our team of mechanics work daily to ensure that our fleet of buses are properly maintained. This year, the New York State Department of Transportation rated Warrensburg's program as one of the best in the state with an In-Service rate of 100% for district buses.

Bus Safety

Bus drivers and monitors have one of the most important jobs: ensuring that students travel to and from school safely. Students are expected to follow these bus safety rules while riding:

  1. Be courteous and refrain from using foul language.
  2. No eating or drinking on the bus.
  3. Please pick up after yourself.
  4. Cooperate with the bus driver, bus monitor, or any other school official on the bus.
  5. Do not engage in destructive behavior.
  6. Stay in your seat at all times.
  7. Keep your hands, head, and feet inside the bus.
  8. No smoking.

Transportation Enrollment

Please contact our Transportation Department by calling (518) 623-3570 or emailing the Transportation Director, Bryan Hoolihan, at hoolihanb@wcsd.org to inform them if your student will be enrolling in transportation services.

We request that this be completed by the final week of August before the new school year begins.

Late Bus

The district offers a late bus that picks up students from the Jr./Sr. High School and the Elementary School at 4 p.m. If a student plans to take the late bus, please inform your teacher at the beginning of the school day so arrangements can be made.

Bus Drills

In accordance with New York State regulations, the transportation department organizes and oversees three bus fire drills throughout the school year. Two of these drills will begin with participants on the bus, while one will start with participants off the bus.

Parents should be aware that there may be a 15-minute delay in drop-off time when these bus safety drills are scheduled.

Parking Lot Safety

Please do not idle or park in the bus lanes. This prevents our students from safely getting on and off the bus. Please use designated pick up and drop off zones. Do not cut across the parking lots or stop in non-designated areas. This leads to congestion that makes it unsafe for staff, students as well as parents.

Idling School Buses on School Grounds

State law requires school districts to take steps to minimize the idling of the engines of school buses and other school vehicles on school grounds. While students are boarding and departing school buses, the engine should be turned off. Students should be instructed about the importance of getting on and off buses in an orderly and efficient fashion to minimize loading and unloading time. Bus engines should also be off while parked at sporting events and other school activities. Exceptions to this “no idling” policy can be made in cases of emergency, mechanical issues or for necessary heating.
